The Catholic Church to Fight the Philippine Reproductive Health Bill

The Catholic Church is leading the protest against the Reproductive Health Bill which provides for access to reproductive health services. Statistics show that 11 women die daily in the Philippines because of complications in pregnancy or in giving birth, which are easily preventable if access to affordable and safe methods of family planning are provided. Women’s groups say that the bill is important to prevent more maternal deaths.

The 16 year old bill which has not gone through because of the strong Church lobby is currently before the Philippines Congress. The Church has vowed to fight it.
